Understanding My Role
What Is a Newborn Care Specialist (NCS)?
A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) is a trained professional who provides non-medical, in-home support during the newborn period. An NCS focuses on feeding, sleep foundations, developmental awareness, and helping families establish sustainable routines during early infancy.
NCS work is educational, supportive, and rooted in evidence-based newborn care practices.
What I Provide as an NCS
My work includes:
• Feeding support (breast, bottle, or combination)
• Burping, soothing, and swaddling
• Diapering and newborn hygiene
• Overnight care so parents can rest
• Sleep support and safe sleep implementation
• Developmentally appropriate routine building
• Recognizing and responding to newborn cues
• Documentation and tracking
• Building parental confidence through education and guidance
I am a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant and integrate safe, research-informed sleep practices into newborn care.
Scope of Practice
To ensure clarity:
I am not a medical provider.
I am not a registered nurse.
While I hold extensive credentials within the perinatal field and am currently a student midwife, my work within rotational placements centers specifically on newborn care and household integration.
I am not currently accepting doula clients or offering midwifery services.
